Research Laboratory Building
Originally built with steel frames and modified repeatedly over the decades, this mid-century laboratory facility lacked a comprehensive seismic safety strategy.
For its seismic retrofit and adaptive upgrade, NOUS performed an ASCE 41 evaluation and designed external steel frames to improve structural resilience. Beyond the retrofit, NOUS has supported a wide array of technical improvements, including lab and office tenant build-outs, new chillers and cooling towers, stair additions, equipment platforms, crane and hoist installations, floor strengthening for heavy lab machinery, and extensive HVAC upgrades. This phased work has enabled the facility to remain operational while achieving significantly improved safety and performance standards.
