Candiani Denim

In downtown Los Angeles, a one-story unreinforced masonry building from the 1920s was seismically retrofitted as part of the City of Los Angeles Division 88 mandatory upgrade program.

In order to create a light-filled new showroom for Candiani Denim Milan, a large skylight was added, and new openings were carved in the existing walls. NOUS worked with Pentagon to ensure the upgrade happened in accordance with Appendix A1 of the California Building Code, strengthening the masonry walls, creating new out-of-plane anchorage, and reinforcing the roof diaphragm.
