Continuing their mission of bringing people together to build “homes, communities and hope”, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) investigated new opportunities in residential design and construction with graduate students at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). Students were tasked to come up with innovative design methods of reviving neglected neighborhoods in Los Angeles. The resulting building intends to enable a positive impact on the surrounding communities through its modern sustainable design.
Nous Engineering worked closely with Habitat for Humanity and SCI-Arc throughout the various iterations to identify design opportunities and highlight the realities of construction and building code requirements. The students were able to apply this knowledge towards production of structural framing plans taking into consideration lateral stability and vertical load requirements.
