A collaboration with Los Angeles based artist, Rob Ley, the Eskenazi Hospital existing parking garage was transformed by a visually interactive facade. A system of panels made up of custom extruded aluminum tubes were developed to facilitate the construction. The varying angles of panels was optimized to include changing wind loads with respect to tile locations.
The metal panels are to be anchored to a lightweight metal tubing system - the size and specific material of which will be specified in accordance with advice from a structural engineer as the project evolves.
Location and angles of tiles derived to accommodate the varying wind loads acting on the facade. This project sought to explore parallels between techniques of two-dimensional image construction and the tectonic considerations present in the design and fabrication of building enclosure.
